Sporting Amenities

Tennis

  • Sandringham Club is home to five modgrass tennis courts, with LED competition rated lights.
  • The courts are accessible and available to Members from 7.00 am to 10.00pm weekdays and 8:00am to 10:00pm on weekends and public holidays.
  • Members are welcome to book and use the courts with their family and guests when the courts are not required for organised competitions, social use or for coaching.  No green fee applies when guests are accompanied by the member.  Guests are welcome to use the Club’s facilities for changing and showering and enjoy access to the Centenary room and, on Sundays, to the Members’ bar.
  • A dress code does apply at all times.
  • Sandringham Club organises a number of competitions for Members, including nightly competition held on Monday – Wednesday nights with 3 competitions per year (Summer, Winter and Spring), 3 Sunday mixed doubles and 4 twilight men’s doubles competitions throughout the year as well as graded intra Club singles and double championships.
  • Social men’s doubles tennis is played: Saturday and Thursday afternoons 2:30-5pm and Sunday mornings 9:30-12pm
  • Tennis coaching is also available at Sandringham Club, for Members and General Public. You do not have to be a Member to book the services of Brad Crosher, our resident Tennis Australia accredited Coach. Brad is contactable via e-mail or on 0448 823 381. Squash

  • Sandringham Club has one recently refurbished, high quality squash court, built in 1935.
  • There are more than thirty active squash players at the Club.
  • Squash in Sandringham Club is predominantly pennant competition, with club championships, regular practice and social matches at other times.
  • The Club has pennant squash teams competing in the strong ‘Club Circuit’ competition, and currently enters teams from B grade to F troop.
  • Squash pennant is played on a Home and Away basis one night per week, between Monday to Thursday evenings with a typical evening involving four individual matches followed by a sit down meal with drinks and social interaction.
  • There are three individual squash trophies on offer amongst Club Members, including the Club Singles Championship, Club Handicap Championship and Most Consistent and Best Pennant Performance.

        Snooker

        • The Billiard Room at Sandringham Club is considered a “Jewel in the Crown” which houses two full sized, recently refurbished, competition grade Billiard Tables
        • The room is available to all Members both Social and Sporting.
        • There are a number of intra Club competitions held each year including: Open Snooker Championship, Handicap Snooker Championship and Handicap Billiards Championship.
        • During the year the Club hosts and travels to 3 other Clubs (Mt Eliza Country Club, Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club and Bentleigh Club) for interclub challenges.

            Golf

            • Whilst not having direct access to a golf course at the Sandringham Club grounds, we average 50, very active golfing members who, also belonging to private golf clubs, help the Golf Convenor arrange a number of golf days through the year, across Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula or the Bellarine Peninsula. Access to World and Australian top ranked private courses is thus made possible for all members.
            • We encourage golfers both with and without an official GOLFLINK, golf handicap, to participate in our golf days
            • There are several Intra Club Competitions held throughout the year including: the Club Championship (stroke), Country Championship (at Sorrento GC), City Championship (at Victoria GC), and various Stableford events. All these lead to an Order of Merit Champion for the calendar year
            • We hold an annual Golf Dinner in early March, with an invited guest speaker.

            Bowls

            • Sandringham Club has four quality mod grass bowls.
            • Bowls is played on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and on Sunday mornings. The dress code is casual on all days.
            • Start Times are:
              • Tuesdays 2.00pm
              • Thursdays 2.00pm
              • Sundays 10:00am
            • New Bowlers are encouraged to practise at any time and to contact the convenor when wishing to play. Our experienced bowlers are happy to assist new bowlers with coaching; this can be arranged through the convenor. Bowls can be borrowed by new players from the Club at no cost.
            • There are three major tournaments each year, these are a singles, pairs and Triples competition and are usually played on Sundays.
            • There are a number of social games during the year with our traditional rivals the West Brighton Club, Royal Melbourne Golf Club (Bowls Section) and The Bentleigh Club.
            • We also play the following events during spring/summer.
              • Handicap singles event and two special events.
              • Twilight event with trophy donated by the late Richard Bean and Special Event Trophy donated by Terry Finnegan.
              • Normally all tournaments are accompanied by a lunch or supper.

              Cricket

              • Cricket has had a long tradition at Sandringham Club with the original cricket pitch area (some say with relocated MCC pitch material originally from Merri Creek) opened by former Australian cricket captain Warwick Armstrong. Over the years a number of first-class teams visited the Club and trained on the pitch, including England and South Australia.
              • Now Sandringham Club Cricket activities includes a team of Members playing in the MCC Club XI Turf Competition during the Cricket season.
              • There is also an intra Club Competition co-ordinated by Members, split into two teams: 1) Australia vs. 2) Rest of the World, played in a T20, very social format.
              • Cricket loving Members also hold an Annual Dinner for the benefit of Members involved.

                          Fishing

                          • Sandringham Club has a number of Members who are keen fishermen. Throughout the year, a number of Fishing expeditions are arranged, for those keen to enjoy the chase of catching a big one.

                          Table Tennis

                          • Sandringham Club has a Table Tennis table and driven by some passion Members, they organise a very social competition for Members throughout the year.
